Volunteer Abroad Program- Thailand, Kosovo & Peru

     

Global Youth Network-Hamilton Region is beginning our recruitment for 2011:12 teams to Thailand, Kosovo and Peru!

We're looking for McMaster University students, Mohawk College students and Youth from the Hamilton region.

Our program runs for the entire month of May and requires some commitment in the months prior to departure for training and fund raising purposes.

"Global Youth Volunteer Network is an international, grass-roots organization working to educate and mobilize young people towards making positive change.

Our philosophy embodies the understanding that relationships are the foundation to faith, justice and community. It is through the development of reciprocal, empowering relationships that we work in solidarity with communities to develop and execute unique initiatives and provide experiential education. These are the initiatives that our Canadian volunteers are able to learn from and contribute to [and] it is these unique initiatives that help us build meaningful relationships and establish. Through these experiences, we aim to empower young [adults] and communities in Canada and abroad."

Our four areas of focus are:
Homelessness & Displacement
Health & Well-being
Indigenous Solidarity, and Human Trafficking & Modern Day Slavery.

Opportunities while in country include working with youth groups, community centres and schools, working with doctors on health promotion, working with women and refugees and also the opportunity to work with existing community projects, like a soup kitchen or learning centre.
